Wife Illegally detained For visiting Jailed Husband's Lawyers

Detod - Legal News

Human Rights ChinaWhat was that old movie promo line? "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...."

I had just posted a piece about some optimism on the horizon concerning the Human Rights situation in China when my News Aggregator throws this one at me.

Apparently according to the above linked report a wife of a man in prison for the old furphy "selling State secrets" was detained against her will for three days in Shanghai after attempting to visit her husband's defence lawyers.

There is a whiff of money and corruption about this one as the jailed husband, a lawyer himself, had recently been leading some sort of class action against a wealthy businessman who allegedly dispossessed people of their homes.

If the PRC government is real about changing their Human Rights record they have to root out these cowboys at the grass roots level who seem to have no accountability for their actions.
