Mayors vow to help their residents

You would have never imagined how bad their living conditions are

-The Mayor of Beijing-

Shanghai, Beijing mayors vow to help their residents

In a very rare moment of self flagellation the Mayors of China's two greatest cities admit to considerable disparities between the new found wealth of some of their residents and the abject poverty of others.

The Mayors of Shanghai and Beijing have also admiited that their city elders had acted sometimes not in the best interests of all the people and that forced evictions had occured.

Since 1991, Beijing has moved more than 1.5 million people into new buildings after rebuilding shabby houses. During the process of rebuilding, Wang admitted, there did exist exceptional cases of forced demolition of urban residential buildings. The People's Daily reported the Mayor of Beijing as saying.

It is like Glasnost all over again, everyone being nice and admitting their shortcomings.
