Beijing reacts over Tiananmen letter - World - www.theage.com.au

Beijing reacts over Tiananmen letter - World - www.theage.com.au:

Looks like I may have spoke too early when I said in the post below that China must be changing it's ways if it allows a prominent person to openly criticise it over the Tiananmen Square massacre.

"A source close to Jiang Yanyong said two officials from the hospital where he worked came to his home yesterday and asked him how his letter to the Communist Party's 24-seat Politburo had reached the media."

It would appear that the letter written by the Doctor was not meant for public consumption and that the authorities are not too pleased.

The Age article linked to above also gives a little more insight into the tone of the letter:

"The mistake made by our party (over Tiananmen Square Ed.) should be resolved by the party itself. The sooner and the more thorough, the better. Year after year, with no correction of the mistake, people feel more and more disappointed and angry."

Dr Jiang is quoted as saying.

It is hoped no recriminations are brought against the good Doctor.
